Queering the Pitch: music for soprano and cello
Soprano Meredith Mecum and cellist Justin Dougherty will present a recital of music by queer composers. The recital features original works for soprano & cello by composers Dominick DiOrio, Brian D. Kelly, Steven J. Knell, and Bruce Trinkley. This concert is the second in a series of ‘Queering the Pitch’ recitals which seek to introduce and celebrate the great works of art being created by composers who are members of the LGBTQA community. Says Mr. Dougherty, “this project is our attempt to both celebrate all the sweeping contributions that queer individuals offer the world and bring forth the change that would eliminate hate and make this recital, particularly one with this title and subject matter, a non-event.”
Other parts of the ‘Queering the Pitch’ series include unaccompanied cello and chamber music recitals and feature works by composers Benjamin Britten, Henry Cowell, Ned Rorem, and emerging and established composers such as Emily Cooley, Laura Kaminsky, and Robert Maggio.
